Robin has had a career spanning three and half decades of performing and teaching in Canada and abroad.

Robin started his career in the early 1970’s in Toronto, then moving to Ottawa in 1980 to join the Central Band of the Canadian Forces. In 1994, Robin moved back to the Golden Triangle where he now resides in Kitchener. Robin has performed in jazz festivals, rock concerts, and orchestra concerts throughout North America and Europe as a lead vocalist and instrumentalist.

r-centralbandPerforming for heads of state such as Pierre Trudeau, Brian Mulroney, Jean Chretien, Margaret Thatcher, (England), Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush (United States), Helmut Kohl (Germany ) and the Canadian Embassy in Washington DC nine times, along with numerous CBC specials, has given Robin the expertise and experience required to back up such artists as Roch Voisin, Bachman Turner Overdrive, David Foster, Martha Reeve and the Vandellas, Wolfman Jack, Ronny Hawkins and Peter Appleyard. He also performed the role of Pontius Pilot in Jesus Christ Superstar in the Center in the Square in Kitchener in November of 2000.

In 1994 after extensive touring and travel, Robin decided to start a music studio in Kitchener where he teaches about 30 aspiring musicians and singers per week with private lessons in voice, saxophone, clarinet, and flute.

Training in classical clarinet from age seven, then onto saxophone and flute in his late teens, Robin appreciates the technique and training that a formal training offers, but as a successful performing jazz and rock musician and composer, realizes that modern music is extremely important too. When teaching, he works on technical development, tone and control, with emphasis on intonation and rhythm, as all are required to be a successful musician/singer.

Helping the students to overcome difficulties experienced when learning is what he strives for, and he enjoys sharing his joy and passion for music. His teacher told him over forty years ago, “passing on the craft is as necessary as mastering the craft yourself” to ensure the continuation of live music as a pleasure and art form.

In September 2002 Robin accepted the position of Music Director of the Ceremonial Band of the Waterloo Regional Police Service. Robin works with, coaches and teaches 45 musicians who donate hundreds of hours per year each to this wonderful volunteer musical ambassador for the Police Service.

The band just completed a tour of Calgary in July for the Stampede 2009.
